The Waste Electrical and Electronic
Equipments is a law proposed by European Council to reduce the landfill throwaway
by owners of the devices. There are more than 500 million people of Europe that
generates 10 million tons of e-waste every year and a large amount is kept away
from e-waste recycling but the EU take caring of a very small amount. So Eu
Council has released the rules in 2003 on WEEE directive came into industry to
reduce the fat growing line of e-waste, which is not good for our environment. Its goals are: To reduce the waste equipment which is disposed of by landfill-- To maximize recycling of WEEE--The traditional Environment rules are focusing on command methods that put approaches to see fines among other things. But the new rule has put a huge restrictions and environmental regulations focus instead on product management and EPR- which is a responsibility for life time on producers to bear all the expenses and cost to see the work done properly.
Environment Website says “Electrical and electronic
equipment' or 'EEE' is "equipment which is dependent on electric currents
or electromagnetic fields in order to work properly and equipment for the
generation, transfer and measurement of such currents and fields falling under
the categories set out in Annex IA [to the WEEE Directive] and designed for use
with voltage rating not exceeding 1,000 Volt for alternating current and 1,500
Volt for direct current".
The rule
mainly applied on the producers of the equipments, producers referred as
retailers, sellers or importers. The restriction like, product design,
registration with WEEE compliance I respective member state and collection of
WEEE after its end of the life, recovery, processing, record keeping, marketing
and labeling and all the cost which about the be spend in the camping.
